Desseray Wright
Founder & Executive Director
Desseray Wright (she/her/hers) is the Founder and Executive Director of Blessings in Transformation (BiT). Ever since being directly impacted by the family policing system, Desseray has dedicated herself to abolishing it. In addition to her work at BiT, Desseray is a Parent and Policy Advocate at The Bronx Defenders. Before joining The Bronx Defenders, Desseray earned a fellowship with the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, where she counseled women who have lost their children to violence. She also interned with the Movement for Family Power, where she advocated against the family policing system.
Desseray was born and raised in The Bronx, and graduated from Hostos Community College at the top of her class earning her Associate's in Criminal Justice.
Zoè Russell
Co-Founder
Zoè Russell (she/her/hers) lives with a passion for supporting radical change for poor Black and Brown families within the movement to abolish the family policing system. She is a deep believer in investing in community, and being held accountable to community. Zoè began her career as Policy Counsel in the Family Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders. She strives to use her role as legal advocate to expand community capacity and develop transformative methods of care and restoration outside of legal, carceral, and capitalist systems.
